Asthma is one of the most widespread chronic health problems in India. Over 2 million Indians suffer from this disorder. Its prevalence is on the rise world wide especially in India. It is often under- managed. It is the main cause of hospitalization and school absenteeism of children in India, and is prevalent in all age groups. It is treatable, if diagnosed in time. Asthma requires long-term attention. To treat only the troublesome acute attacks is ineffective in the long term.
